The Sydney ITeC Repair Centre began over 20 years ago, as a spin-off from an electronics training programme run by its current management Ralph Gatt; Don Quinn and Tom Gunthorpe.
Established in 1986, ITeC began repairing IT equipment for IBM; initially as a practical training exercise for the training graduates but shortly after as a viable commercial service for IBM. By 1988, with IBM still the company’s main partner, ITeC was very much a going concern.
Within 5 years ITeC’s IT repair work had saved IBM and NCR around $5 million.
By the 1990’s ITeC was a diverse electrical and electronic repair business benchmarking itself against its competitors. In 1995, ITeC was awarded the New South Wales Small Business Award, after receiving Highly Commended in the same category the previous year.
Four years later ITeC moved to its current premises in Mascot. Repairs expanded to include more complex technical work such as power supplies, ATM’s, and retail electronic scanning and distribution systems and the increase in work had made a larger site critical. In addition, ITeC had acquired the NCR Australian National Repair Centre in 1994, the IBM OEM Repair Centre soon after and in 2000 the Fujitsu/ICL National Repair Centre.
In recent years, ITeC has undergone another transformation. In 2005, ITeC established a strategic partnership with Toll Priority Techserv. This technical courier division has given ITeC the capability to provide Field Technical Service and Swap-outs. Toll Priority Techserv allows ITeC to network with over 500 locations in Australia and New Zealand. This combined with the original technical training skills ITeC was renowned for in the early days has made the business more robust and able to achieve significant growth.
ITeC continues to innovate. 2005 also saw a diversification in the sector portfolio from banking, retail and IT to include parking and ticketing. In 2006 we entered the kiosk and digital media sectors with our unique brand of cost effective hardware maintenance solutions.
ITeC is no longer simply a training or a repair business but a very commercial IT Services Provider, increasingly able to offer end to end hardware maintenance solutions for business.
