Our approach to staging and rollouts follows
a strict combination of project management philosophies combined with tight subcontractor
management.
Whether the scale is larger and involves
1000 installations Australia-wide or it is something more modest, we have the capability
to deliver on time and on budget.
Staging can be either “hot” or “cold.” With our PC ReUse business ITEC manages
the decommissioning, refurbishment and distribution of 5,000 personal computers
annually to locations all over Australia. The software template is set and
the staging occurs in our Mascot premises.
With more complex rollouts, a combination
of structured communications programmes, logistics engagement and subcontractor
deployment may require the attention of a full time Project Manager and Project
Office. Installation locations are
amalgamated into hubs dependent on the geographical spread and the complexity of
each installation. The same installation crew is trained and implements a geographic
region so as to maintain both consistency and quality standards. Several geographic regions may have crews installing hubs at the same time.
Installation follows a documented process
that has been signed off by the client.
A site visit is conducted of all locations to agree the implementation and any out
of scope requirements. With the process
blueprinted and specific site requirements agreed; each location is installed to
specification; completion requiring a signature to agree handover.
All the planning and preparation work
on any rollout requires a step by step preparation plan. We look at a communications strategy;
hub selection and allocation; logistics
aligned to coordinate with the manufacture of product; we co-ordinate at a staging
centre all product for a site as well as looking at a risk management strategy to
minimise the likelihood of a breakdown in the rollout plan and the installation
process. There may also be the need
to develop custodial training for the end user in refilling consumables, unclogging
a printer, rebooting and general troubleshooting.
Finally a quality plan is structured which
audits a percentage of implementations to ensure that the expectations of the customer
are being met and hopefully exceeded.
This quality process includes regular monitoring of the project; including the timeliness
of the rollout, successful implementations, breakdowns and the following recoveries. Regular reviews are conducted with clients,
suppliers and subcontractors to ensure we are all on track and any breakdowns in
the process are rectified in a timely manner.
Our skill in project management is about
being attentive to what is going on in a project.

reach our destination.”
